Reflection Self-Portrait

1. Why Did You Pick This Particular Image Over The Others?
This particular photograph turned out to be my favourite in the series because it shows an incredible sense of depth of field between my foot, leg, hand and the 3DS. The photograph stands out as unique for various reasons, one of them being how the image shows a double reflection in both the top and bottom screens. The composition is quite effective, and I found it to be the most captivating out of all the successful photographs taken. When creating the contact sheet, I ensured that none of the images had a camera visible in it to redeem extra credit, so this was certainly factor that was considered when deciding to select this image over the others.

2. How Did You Setup / Compose Your Photo?
In order to successfully snap this photograph, I sat down on the carpeted floor in front of the bed. My limb was stretched out in front of me. I rested my elbow on my knee, supporting my hand that is holding the Nintendo 3DS in which I captured my reflection. Then, I positioned the screen to ensure that my entire face would be depicted in the image.

3. What Stands Out The Most When You First See It?
When I glance at this photograph, my eyes are first drawn to my five toes on my right foot. The double reflection is larger in size and takes up more space, but my foot shows the furthest sense of depth of field, which tends to force my eyes to notice it the fastest. I also really appreciate that it is not just plain, simple black and white; there is a very cool tone, a green tint, to the image.

4. What Leads Your Eye Around From Place To Place?
A typical person who is viewing this image would probably notice the elements in order of depth of field. Depth of field is the distance between the nearest and furthest objects within an image. The objects in this photograph in order from nearest to farthest are my hand, my leg, the Nintendo 3DS and my foot. When I look at my hand on the left hand side of the photograph, I notice a vein or muscle of some sort, popping out. This allows for an even more intense depth of field, as the muscle appears to be closer to the camera than the skin of my hand.

5. What Title(s) Could You Give This Artwork?
Some titles that I would deem appropriate for this photograph are “Game Time”, “Midnight Round” or “Three-Dimensional Nintendo”. These titles directly relate to the subject matter of the artwork; playing on a Nintendo 3DS. “Midnight Round” is considered an appropriate title because midnight is the approximate time that this image was shot.
