DECEMBER 2012'S THEME : CHRISTMAS / WINTER
1. Why did you pick this particular photo?
I chose to upload this particular photograph because it portrays both the Christmas season and the winter time in some very unique ways. The photograph incorporates the feeling of Christmas time by featuring the Christmas tree lights in the background top, right corner of the photo. The subject of the photograph, the Christmas tree ornament, is another way that the jolly season of Christmas is being shone throughout the artwork. I thought the photograph depicted the winter time pretty well, since the house ornament is covered in mounds and mounds of snow. The bright, white snow creates a major sense of contrast to the photo, as it is saturated and separated into black and white tones.
2. How did you set up / compose your photo?
In order to compose this photograph, I chose an appropriate ornament that was deemed effective for this photography assignment. I placed the ornament on the kitchen table. I chose to place it on the kitchen table since I wanted to capture the Christmas tree lights in the background, just behind the ornament. I also really like the texture and the lines in which the table adds to the photograph. When I started snapping pictures, I made sure to focus my camera on the ornament, since I wanted it to be the closest, most clear and precise object in the photograph. This allowed the background elements of the photograph to be slightly blurred out of perspective.
3. What stands out the most when you first see it?
All of the light colours stand out the most when I look at this piece of art. This is due to the very high amount of saturation and contrast. The snow on the ornament and the white Christmas lights in the right hand corner are what pop out the most when viewing this imagery.
4. What leads your eye around from place to place?
When glancing at this photograph, my eyes are first drawn to the object that is closest to the lens; the Christmas ornament. This object has the most crisp detail out of all the elements in the photograph, as well as some very beautiful shadowing effects. After my eyes are finished examining the Christmas ornament, they move on to whatever is behind it. In this case, a table, chair, Christmas lights, as well as a photo frame are behind the subject. Since they are located beyond the focal point, my eyes tend to focus on them afterwards.

5. What title(s) could you give this artwork?
Some titles that I would consider to be rather appropriate for this artwork are, "Snowy House", "Christmas is Near", "Home in the Winter", "Snowy Ornaments", or "Christmas Lights and Cheer". All of these titles relate to the theme of winter and/or Christmas, which perfectly highlights the main theme revolving around the month of December.
